Officers were called to the Carmens Plaza parking lot in Massapequa shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10, when a passerby reported that there was a child who had been left alone in a running car.
Police said that upon arrival, officers located a 2-year-old child asleep in the back of an unlocked vehicle with the air conditioning on.
The child was evaluated by a Nassau County Police Department medic, and was ultimately deemed unharmed.
According to police, approximately 10 minutes later, Suffolk County resident Reina Carrion, of Bay Shore, exited the DMV office and she was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Carrion was taken into custody without incident and is scheduled to be arraigned in Mineola on Friday, Sept. 11.
